What Sets the Budget for a Nassau County Kitchen

Nassau kitchens follow the Long Island ranges in our kitchen remodel cost guide. Sweeten’s Long Island guide prices a complete rip-and-replace of a roughly 120 square foot kitchen at $23,500 to $102,500 and up. Three decisions set where yours lands.

1. The cabinet tier. Cabinetry is almost always the largest line item. Fixr’s 2026 cabinet installation cost data puts installed cabinets at roughly $100 to $300 per linear foot for stock, $150 to $650 for semi-custom and $500 to $1,200 for custom, with Long Island quotes toward the upper end. Our kitchen cabinet cost guide covers the tiers in detail.

2. Whether the layout moves. Moving a sink into a new island, running gas to a relocated range or opening a wall to the dining room adds labor, sometimes structural work, and a permit. It is the biggest swing cost in any kitchen.

3. Counters and appliances. Quartz, granite, marble and porcelain slabs each price differently and need professional fabrication. A basic appliance package costs a fraction of a professional-grade suite.

Hold a contingency of 10 to 20 percent, because older Nassau houses often hide surprises behind the walls. If resale matters, Zonda’s 2025 Cost vs Value report found that a midrange minor kitchen remodel recoups roughly 113 percent of its cost, the best return of any interior project in the study.

Design, Materials and Installation Under One Roof

A kitchen usually involves a designer, a materials supplier, a contractor and a building department. At D&V the first three are one company, and we deal with the fourth for you.

It works in four steps: a free consultation with a general estimate; an in-home visit with measurements and a structural evaluation, so a load-bearing wall is found and priced before you sign; a written line-item proposal naming the exact cabinet line, countertop, sink, faucet and appliances; and a dedicated project manager from demolition to final walkthrough.

Selections happen in our showroom of about 6,200 square feet, where cabinetry is displayed across price tiers (imported Italian lines are available to order), next to countertop slabs in quartz, granite, marble and porcelain, plus sinks, faucets, flooring and lighting. Ordering from our own floor keeps lead times inside the schedule. Our kitchen remodeling page lists what every D&V kitchen project includes.

Kitchen Permits in Nassau: Your Town or Your Village

Nassau County does not issue building permits for remodels; its Building and Zoning Permits page sends homeowners to their city, town or village (nassaucountyny.gov). For a kitchen, replacing cabinets, counters and appliances in their current positions is often treated as cosmetic. Moving the sink, adding or rerouting gas, adding circuits or taking out a wall calls for a building, plumbing or electrical permit with inspections. The office depends on your exact address:

  • Syosset, Plainview, Jericho, Glen Head and the hamlet of Oyster Bay file with the Town of Oyster Bay Building Division at 74 Audrey Avenue, which lists any interior alterations and plumbing fixtures among work that requires a permit (oysterbaytown.com).
  • Merrick, North Bellmore and other unincorporated Hempstead communities file with the Town of Hempstead Department of Buildings at One Washington Street, through its Online Permit Center (hempsteadny.gov).
  • Unincorporated Roslyn Heights and Manhasset file with the Town of North Hempstead at 176 Plandome Road, which issues building and plumbing permits online (northhempsteadny.gov).
  • Incorporated villages run their own departments. Sea Cliff’s permit list covers new wiring, panels or circuits and plumbing work that cuts, solders or connects pipes or hoses, including PEX; only minor plumbing repairs such as washers, toilet fill valves and flappers are exempt (seacliff-ny.gov). The Village of Roslyn and the Village of Great Neck, at 767 Middle Neck Road, also permit their own work (historicroslyn.org, greatneckvillage.gov).

Because the Town of Oyster Bay and the Village of Sea Cliff cast a wider net, and other villages set their own rules, we confirm the requirements for your exact address when we prepare your drawings. We then determine which building, plumbing or electrical permits the job needs, make sure each is filed under the proper license and build inspections into the schedule. If a contractor asks you to pull your own permit, treat that as a warning sign. Our Long Island permit guide goes deeper.

How Long a Nassau County Kitchen Takes

Plan on 2 to 4 months of construction from demolition to final walkthrough, and roughly 3 to 6 months overall once design and selections are counted. Cabinets usually set the pace, with lead times of 4 to 16 weeks; custom and imported lines run 12 to 16 weeks or longer. We order cabinets as soon as you approve the design, so production overlaps permit review. Most homeowners stay in the house throughout. Our kitchen remodel timeline guide breaks down each phase.

Questions to Ask Any Nassau Kitchen Contractor

Nassau licenses home improvement contractors at the county level, and its consumer checklist says operating without a license is against the law. Ask for the license number and verify it, with complaint history, by calling the Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs at (516) 571-2600. Then ask who pulls the permit, whether the proposal names the exact cabinet line and countertop rather than allowances, and where selections happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Nassau County?

Most full kitchen remodels run about $25,000 to $100,000 or more, consistent with Sweeten’s Long Island range of $23,500 to $102,500 and up for a roughly 120 square foot rip-and-replace. The cabinet tier and whether the layout moves matter most.

Do I need a permit to remodel a kitchen in Nassau County?

Yes, if the project moves the sink, adds or reroutes gas, adds circuits or changes a wall. Swapping cabinets, counters and appliances in place often does not, though the Town of Oyster Bay lists interior alterations and plumbing fixtures, and villages such as Sea Cliff set their own rules. The permit comes from your town, city or village building department, not the county, and D&V handles it as part of the project.

How far is the D&V showroom from Nassau County?

The showroom at 2095 Jericho Turnpike in East Northport is about 20 minutes from Syosset, Woodbury and Plainview and about half an hour from Oyster Bay, East Hills and Roslyn, without traffic. It is open seven days a week.

How long does a kitchen remodel take in Nassau County?

About 2 to 4 months of construction and roughly 3 to 6 months from first consultation to finished kitchen. Cabinet lead times of 4 to 16 weeks usually decide the schedule.

Which Nassau communities has D&V completed kitchens in?

Our portfolio shows Nassau kitchens in Merrick, Oyster Bay, Great Neck, Sea Cliff, East Hills, Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, Bellmore, Syosset and Valley Stream, plus a first-floor remodel in North Bellmore. We work throughout the rest of the county too.

Can I choose cabinets and countertops before signing a contract?

Yes. Selections are made at the showroom during the design phase, before anything is ordered, and every choice is written into the line-item proposal.
